Over 25% of local residents live below the poverty line, and with inadequate access to sanitary products. SLAAP has started a pilot project called Positive Period Partners to address this “period poverty” by offering free pads and tampons to local middle and high schools, youth organizations, and organizations serving the unhoused in the Bristol VA area. We hope that creating a caring connection with people who can become pregnant will lead to an ongoing conversation about comprehensive reproductive health care and where they can find resources.
One of our long term goals for expanding Positive Period Partners is to create community-based pick-up locations for free menstrual supplies, condoms, pregnancy tests and emergency contraception.
You can support Postive Period Partners by making a donation or purchasing supplies from our Amazon wishlist.
